Flash became the 1st DJ to physically put his hands on the BODY of the Vinyl. Flash was ridiculed for dirtying the vinyl but also for ruining the song because of the constant rubbing back and forth and forcing the vinyl to go counterclockwise------ BUT the birth of this math and science was the birth of what is now known as Turntablism. 

By putting his fingertips on the vinyl, the vinyl served a dual purpose: it was no longer just the sound source, it became what we now call the controller. This Technique ultimately created a CLEAR, seamless bed of music, which gave the MC a bed of music to Rhyme over, and this technique could arguably be considered the birth of rap.
